Privacy Policy

Checkmate ("we," "us") operates checkmateapp.live, a tool that interviews you and generates a short profile of how you work (your "me.md"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We've kept it in plain language.

1. What we collect

• Interview answers — the text you type during the interview.
• Your name — only if you enter it (used to personalize your me.md).
• Your me.md — the result we generate from your answers.
• Email address — only if you ask us to email your me.md or you select a paid offer.
• Usage & device data — pages viewed, actions taken, approximate location, browser/device, via analytics (see §5). This is not linked to your name.

We do not ask for sensitive categories of data, and we ask you not to enter them.

2. How we use it

• To run the interview and generate, show, and let you share your me.md.
• To email your me.md to you, if you request it.
• If you selected a paid offer, to contact you about that offer.
• To measure and improve the product.
• To prevent abuse and keep the service secure.

3. Legal bases (GDPR)

We process your data on the basis of: your consent (e.g. emailing your result, joining an offer); our legitimate interests (running, securing, and improving the product); and to take steps at your request before any agreement.

4. Sharing — and what we don't do

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. We share data only with the service providers that run Checkmate, as processors:

• Anthropic — the AI that conducts the interview and writes your me.md.
• Supabase — stores your result (EU region).
• Vercel — hosting and product analytics.
• Google Analytics — usage analytics.
• Resend — sends your me.md email, if you request it.

We may also disclose data if required by law.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use cookies/local storage and analytics (Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics) to understand usage. You can block these via your browser settings or extensions; the interview still works without them.

6. Shared me.md links

If you share your me.md, its link (an unguessable URL) is viewable by anyone who has it. A shared page shows only your me.md — never your full interview transcript or your email. You can ask us to delete it.

7. Data retention

We keep your me.md and (if provided) email until you ask us to delete them, or until they're no longer needed for the purposes above. Analytics data is retained per the providers' defaults.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict your data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Because we don't sell data, there's nothing to opt out of on that front. To exercise any right, email us (§11). We won't discriminate against you for it.

9. International transfers

Our providers may process data in the US and EU. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).

10. Security & children

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data and limit access. Checkmate isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
